Some teams are making ad hoc decisions via spreadsheets. Some have software developers codifying business rules or logic. Some have algorithm, data science, or decision science teams dedicated to making these operational decisions using things like simulation or optimization techniques. I’ve conceptualized what I call the ‘decision maturity cycle’, which is essentially a roadmap for leveling up your decision making with data and AI. I view this process in four stages: manual, business logic, algorithm, and multi-algorithm.
